OnlyFans Takedown

Has anybody else heard of this? It was a porn site and they banned... porn. I think this is a trend. They banned porn on Tumblr when it was no longer in the investors' interest. Tumblr wasn't meant for porn however, whereas I think OnlyFans was meant almost exclusively as nsfw. Meanwhile PornHub acquired itself a Tik Tok account somehow? Something doesn't add up.

Here's the problem with this current situation. Websites are getting big off of explicit content and once they're big enough, think they can up and stop all explicit material. That's like believing online porn will be as illegal as prostitution one day (and meanwhile prostitution itself acquires legal status under people's noses in places such as Vegas). Even those damn lewd ads are back on the home page here.

So the demand for sites with explicit material allowed remains, at least until the next fad app. Phones are good for Tinder and EHarmony but even then, that principle of going for the easy stuff remains in an immediate state. Basically the vicious cycle perpetuates, and we catch a glimpse of just how messed big business will be.

I heard that pornhub changed because they were accused of allowing videos of child abuse and rape. They took down bunches of content and only allowed content from verified users. Then because of pressure from MasterCard they have gone to a new business profile - no porn - so they can keep accepting credit cards.

So, not so sure it was to please investors but rather to pull themselves back from the brink of ruin. An online website of that size that cannot accept credit cards is screwed.

The only reason they want to stop the explicit material is because they could not keep people from uploading child porn and rape videos.

I agree that this change will likely be the downfall of the company - after all, with a name like pornhub you kind of locked yourself into a particular business model.

Maybe they will change their name to 'hub' - or maybe 'not-pornhub'.

Yeah pretty sure you're right about PornHub but to clarify it's them you were referring to with MasterCard too yeah? I understand this is maybe what went on with OnlyFans but what? And is this the reason Tumblr did the same originally?

I looked again just to be sure and I think the MasterCard/Visa is the main reason. I know that in April the credit card companies made it clear what their stance was on adult content sites which affected Only Fans. I think that Pornhub was never in the clear even when they removed content from their site and tightened upload policies.

Not sure why it has taken until August for those credit care maneuvers to force these changes. I also think an influential billionaire had some sway in these companies changing things.

And yes, I am pretty sure Tumblr also changed because of these credit card changes.

So - follow the money, or in this case the credit cards.

So OnlyFans undid the ban for now. Viva la pornography huh? Pornhub is like City Hall here in Boston-- people have always wanted to take it down from the start. But follow the money indeed if OnlyFans actually realized it shot itself in the foot.

If you've read anything I have posted about money, you know how I am with it. I buy technology that exists before planned obsolescence. I learn calculus by watching a fifteen minute video online and the teacher is like what. I bought a dollar bill for twenty dollars because it's from the twenties-- read, the 1920s-- before they had that damn pyramid on the back and it just reads in big letters 'ONE'.
